almost outta here

Well folks it's been grand but I'll be signing off in the next couple of days! My big trip is fast approaching. I've learned a lot from this list and conversed with and read many virtual KLR stories. I even met a dozen of you at SongDog. My KLR is now pimped to the max, a bit scary considering sooooo many last minute changes that have gotten very little shakedown. From a completely new riding outfit - right down to the boots - to that scary new Electrex hype output stator and regulator. I've installed a rather large Givi top box for locking storage, which I am not totally used to. I now have to mount the bike like a chick -- I just hope my back doesn't give out. All along the Kawasaki tailbag worked fine but my mind thinks my worldly possessions need locking. Sure as shit I'll lose that key in two days, so tomorrow I'm gonna get a couple extras. I've got a new chain and sprocket, eventhough the old one was plenty fine. I re-lubed the ever rusting swing arm pivots. Put in fresh oil, filter, antifreeze, fork oil and my valves are as loose as I can make them and still be in spec. I even changed out the K&N with a Uni because of the scary hype. I hope to squeeze enough miles out of the rear tire to make it to Seattle so the replacement has its best chance against the sharp shards that make up the Dempster Highway on the way to Inuvik. I plan to do my Alaska voyage counterclockwise from what I hear others do, ending in Haines or Skagway then via ferry to Bellingham, WA. I've completed 98% of the preperation necessary. Just a few more bits - like my Lexan headlight shield, some cash and traveler's checks and I'm ready to put on 10,000 miles. I plan to be gone for 39 days, at which time I will provide this list an update. Regards, Steven van Twuyver

Can't get past the security on the Adobe format for some reason. Says there's no passward, and that I can't alter files. Suggestions? Pete Denzer
