I just heard that a man was 'partially consumed' by a grizzly bear in Hyder, Alaska on the weekend. He was camped in a tent in his back yard!
Also, a young woman was stalked and cornered by a cougar at Tatla Lake in the West Chilcotin area of BC. The cougar was scared off before any harm could come to the woman.
A few weeks ago a man was eaten by wolves (the first recorded wolf attack on a human in BC, maybe even all of North America) while he slept on a beach near Tofino on Vancouver Island. It seems people were feeding the wolves and they lost part of their fear of humans (??) so the man sleeping on the beach was an inviting snack.
Get out there and see the wilderness while you can, but be smart.
