[dsn_klr650] need flat tire repair help

Post by racing43rd@aol.com » Mon Jul 17, 2000 3:02 pm

Barry Having gone through what you did this weekend far too many times I finally decided to NEVER use a tire iron to install a tire again. What I use is a rubber mallet and dish detergent. What I do is line up the tube, bring the valve stem throught the hole and run the nut about 3/4 of the way down. Then with the tire on a thin rubber mat (optional) I kneel on the outer edge, apply some detergent, and using one hand to press the tire onto the rim I whack the edge of the tire with the mallet, moving around the tire as it becomes seated. On a 15' it takes some serious pressing and the last 6' to 8' can be a pain. On a 21' you really don't even need the mallet. This method has worked for me for the last 18 years and a side benefit is you end up with a great grip. Seriously try it after the first couple it's fairly easy. Ed Windsor Oh
