shifter angle adjustment

I installed an IMS shifter on my '96 KLR 650 and it is too high for me. If I lower it one spline then the shifter lever hits the frame. Is there a way to rotate the shifter 'axle' from the far side for fine adjustment or does it have a similar splined end that would rotate the same amount as moving the lever itself. At this point I'm going to switch back to the stocker and use the IMS as a spare for the inevitable day that my stocker disintegrates. Allso, I find the fat pad on the stocker more comfortable on my instep. Has anyone tried a cable like the MSR brake saver to minimize bending in the event of a fall down? Can the brake saver be used on the shifter as well? Thanks, Todd Schroder '96 KLR650
