Check the archives for several days worth of opinions on this subject. Somone reported that a rep for the chain company said that, since the O-rings hold the grease in, the benefits of lubing the outer part of the chain are minimal; and if that lubing attracts and holds any type of dirt, this will cause much greater wear than if the chain was not lubed at all. Its one theory, seems to make sense, and the only true way to tell would be to take two identical chains, lube one and not the other, and ride them exactly the same for their entire life. This is where the list is a real bonus in that you can compare other's experience and average it for yourself. Best tip is to keep that chain adjusted correctly! A tight chain will stretch prematurely and cut thousands of miles off its life, if it doesn't succeed in destroying the countershaft bearings or worse. Rich TNBMWRIDER@... wrote:
