[dsn_klr650] some norcal dual-sport ride n' camp some time

Post by billmonahan » Wed Jul 12, 2000 8:28 pm

Mark, and everyone.  Here are my thoughts on the subject.   The Mendocino Forest area has some great on and off road riding opportunities. You can access this area either from the north by coming down from Covelo or west from 101 or from the south through Upper Lake or from the east on Hwy 20...to Elk Mountain Road.   Just up out of Upper Lk on Elk Mtn Rd is a "ORV Staging Area" campground, Middle Creek Campground.  It's got running water, bathrooms, and it's $4 a night per site.  It is situated on a big creek and is a staging area for dirt bikes and ATVs.  There are a fair amount of shade trees, as well.  There are many miles of trails there and we could have a great time on a two or three day campout, with lots and lots of riding thrown in. Lots of creek crossings. Also just up a spectacular winding uphill tight and twisty road (Elk Mtn Rd) is the Mendocino Nat'l forest which has more miles of off-road trails, which street legal KLRs are legal on.  Not to mention the dirt road network lacing the entire area.     It gets pretty hot up there, and it might be the most pleasant time to do this in late September or early October.  I am surely interested, and I think it would be a lot of fun.  I'd like to meet Conall, Ron Wells, yourself, and the other guys (I can't think of their names right now) who live in the N. Ca area...   My Tengai-riding bud James, if he's not working too hard, would be a great camp chef to have around; if he's not already too busy he would enjoy doing some camp-chef work.  There would be supplies available in Upper Lake, Ukiah, and Lakeport.   Anyone have any thoughts on this subject?  I'd like to see it happen.   BBQ'd Goat  (Senor Cabrito) A12  with the ripped up gaiters
not sure of the date, but if folk are interested (and some seem to be), we might try to get together a little norcal weekend ride and camp up into mendocino nat'l forest or something. likely the 2nd or 3rd weekend in august. mw

[dsn_klr650] some norcal dual-sport ride n' camp some time

Re: [DSN_klr650] Some NorCal dual-sport ride n' camp some time The Mendocino Forest is a great idea. The sooner the better, weather(heat) permitting! Maybe something less dependent on the temperature sooner. Maybe just a ride to the coast or what ever Mr. Goat can dream up. Ron A14 -- --- Ronald Wells
