hand guard - the simple aluminum bar type
Previously I had an Acerbis Rally Pro, new style, with spoilers on it, and I know now, that - although it is tough - it is totally useless when it comes to weather protection even with the spoilers on!
Ladies and Gentlemen on the list, your thoughts and comments are most welcome!
Might I suggest the Maier Pro's with the spoilers? They have great weather protection, and are extremely tough. I have my levers rotated downward just slightly, so the end balls are just on the underside of the aluminum bar. (The clutch one sometimes rattles on it at idle, no biggie.) The levers are full length, and completely inside the spoiler, which is very tough plastic and totally protects the levers. I have smacked the bars on trees, and no damage at all, and had a couple of good low speed get offs too. Point is that the handguards main job is to protect your hands, and with them set up this way, in the very unlikely event that you hit them hard enough to actually bend the lever, you are going to bending and breaking a whole lot more than that, so I don't see the need to cut the end balls off just to have the levers inside the aluminum handguard bar. Almost every time a lever gets bent, it is bent backwards, and there is no chance of this happening with my set up, as the levers are enclosed by the spoilers. As for weather protection, the spoilers protect so well that even in the winter I just use a thin pair of leather gloves without getting cold hands. I was lucky that they came with the bike when I bought it. Jeff
