Howdy- Specifically, "most" 96' models and newer have the upgraded balancer adjuster mechansim, and clutch basket.(Ref., DSN, Dec. 1999, pg15.) On the other hand, it is said the newer models have, unnecessarily heavier top-ends (in the cam assembly). DSN back issues are a great value and a rich source of KLR(and related) wisdom. Touring arcticles(and gear), aftermarket mods and accessory suppliers, tests, tips, and more are included in the early issues(which is the DSN foundation). Bienividos!
