Hello list,
Back from a very scenic and relaxing, cold and rainy 8 day ride.
Our trip began in New Jersey, up through Burlington vermont, Then on to
Quebec City.
We then traveled along the north shore of the St. Lawrence, Ferried it across
and then crossed New Brunswick, (looked like Alaska), and then To Prince
Edward Island and finally down the coast to Boston then Home total, 2600 miles
What worked, and what didn't:
Tim You are the master, the S.U. racks and the Ortleib clip on bags were
flawless, out of 8 days we had six rainy ones. the bags were dry! and I used
a military surplus pack liner to put my duffel bag in and it worked too. dry
rider pants with the Kilimanjaro jacket, Totally waterproof! and with my
Maier woods pro handguards,
and tall Totes overboots, feet and hands were dry too!
No problems in the wet with the dreaded stalling due to heavy rain. I had
just mounted a new Gripater am24 on the rear and it was great on and off
road, and shows no sign of wear.
The tall Kawasaki windsheild was a great asset below 70 mph, above that, the
buffeting was harsh.
Tried the Maxum chain wax, and I am really dissapointed, it washed off in
the rain and I had to lube every 400 or so miles, the chain made tons of
noise, until I found some of the regular gooey black suzuki chain lube I
usually use.
also, the Supertrapp pipe was so loud, I had ringing in my ears after the
first two days , I now use earplugs.
average MPG 47 not too shabby. usually hit reserve at 225 miles.
