KLRiders,
I rode my A13 out to VMD at MidOhio this past weekend. Beautiful weather,
this event is like Christmas in July for a rider. The bike ran great out
to Ohio; retrospectively it was 54 deg F when I left here at 5 AM and 84 F
when I arrived at 5 PM. Bike ran fine while at the event.
After leaving Ohio at 8 AM today the bike ran fine until just after noon,
then it was acting like going on reserve, with only 65 miles on the tank. I
stopped and filled up, the bike ran fine but started the same missing, like
starved for gas after 15 to 20 miles into the ride. Stopped and checked the
vent tube, it was open. NO vacuum sound when I open the tank cap, but I
left it the cap just open and rode again. Same symptoms after 15 to 20
miles, with a popping on a trailing throttle like it was running very lean.
Once I got into the WV mountains the bike ran fine, though the air temps
had cooled a bit. Stopped at Petersburg, WV and filled the tank. It was
hot there, about 92 deg F. After exactly 14 miles into the tank the loss
of power/ starved for gas symptoms began. This time I turned to cross
another mountain, the air temp dropped to upper 70s and the bike ran fine
all the way home.
I use regular gas and a K&N air filter, and got 48 to 54 mpg today.
It seems that this problem is air temperature related: Below 88 deg F, bike
runs great, above that gas is not getting to the cylinder. How can I make
this bike work above 90 deg F? Carby problem, vacuum line??? Any ideas
will be much appreciated.
Sorry if this was recently discussed, I have been of list and riding.
Thanks,
