[dsn_klr650] being seen ii nklr

Talking about old ladies who can't see. About a year ago my wife was
parked out on the main street in the town (Temple City, Ca) where I live.
She opened her door to get out. Before she got out she was checking
something in her purse. Now mind you the car door had been open for a good
twenty seconds. All of a sudden she felt the door being ripped from the
car, and glass flying everywhere. She immediately called me and within ten
minutes I was there. This little old lady (in every sense of the word) was
standing there practically incoherent, wondering "whaaa happened". I
figured she was on some kind of medication, but regardless, she had no
business driving a car. About a month later my wife meet up with her by
accident and said she was in exactly the same semi-comatose state.

Subject: [DSN_klr650] Being Seen II
I was riding to work this morning and just about there. There is a ramp
that merges at a relatively steep angle into downtown (the ramp merges into
its own lane) and I was on my way up. I try to keep myself between the cars
as I'm merging and look at the people's heads as they drive. It's common
for
folks to change into the new right lane as soon as it appears regardless of
the solid white line separating them. The little old lady in the Buick had
dark sunglasses with side blinders so I was certain she didn't see me. What
I didn't expect was that when she cut me off she would also hit her brakes.
Yikes! There is a 6 inch curb so that was not an exit. All I could do was
pray and grab brakes. Missed her by about 3 feet. She never saw me at all.
When my Darien arrives I'll be accentuating it with more tape and I like
the
idea of rim tape for night time riding. I'll also be getting a louder horn
but the fact remains that while some folks just don't see bikers, there are
others who just don't see ANYONE. Hence all the fender benders.
Drive ahead... Concentrate...
