nklr: tires

First, I want to Thank everyone that has shared with me their
information, experience, and wisdom concerning tires for the KLR650.
I learned a lot, and it helped me make my final decision. I was
sitting in the garage, tearing off the body work to do a good
cleaning job after last weekends Enduraid 2000 Rally, when the boss
came out in the garage and got all smoochy and sticky. I figured
something was up. Some new piece of furniture, a July 4th trip, some
new clothes, etc. Instead, the boss gave me a bonus check to apply to
my KLR budget. Whoa, Cool. Now I know what I am going to do. Honey,
you're the greatest.
I was going to go with the Kenda K270's. But, this would be my first
time with a full knobbie on the street. I remember running down the
street in the 70's and early 80's on my dirt bikes just trying to get
to that orchard or canyon before Mr. Law saw me. I didn't
particularly like the feeling of knobbies on the street back then and
those were much lighter dirt bikes. So, I decided to go with a 50/50
tire instead. A more aggressive tread than the stock tires, yet with
street manners that are a bit closer to what I am used to. I picked
the Pirelli MT70. I have heard excellent things about them from this
list and other dual sport riders that I know. I figure this will give
me a chance to gradually move toward a more and more agressive tire,
if I need to. I found that MAW has a F/R pair for about $138.00. Does
anyone know of a cheaper supplier. This seems to be about the lowest
price I can find.
Again, Thank you all for your willingness to share and enlighten a
confused soul. Ride Hard, Ride Safe, and Ride to Work.
