Hey, everyone. For those of you using a Garmin GPS (any model), here is some info I got from them. Our work GPS 12XL came up with a message that the internal memory battery was low after being stored for a time (??) without AA's installed. Since it was less than a year old, I wondered if there was a problem and sent an e-mail. Here is their reply: Thankyou for contacting Garmin. Many GARMIN units use an internal rechargeable lithium battery to retain user data. If the units are stored for 4-6 months without batteries, their internal memory battery will discharge because it must be recharged from internal batteries. If this occurs, a low battery or data lost message may appear. It is important to note that a discharged memory battery can take up to 2 weeks to recharge when fresh AA alkaline batteries are installed. Please install fresh batteries and call back in a couple of weeks if the problem persists. FYI: They are so backed up this reply to my e-mail took 3 weeks! They day I called their toll-free #, I was told to expect a wait "in excess of 30 minutes". Cheers, D. GBG eh14
