On the first 2 up ride with wife (her first ride ever....low pressure,
deserted neighborhood ride), she wrapped her hands around my waist then
proceeded to bash helmets just about Every time I downshifted or braked. We
went home.
Pulled into the driveway (her face still beet-red), asked her if she'd like
to try again using the passenger handles on the tailrack....she did, we tried
again & presto...exactly One helmet bash in around 30 rides since then. Been
trying to keep our rides short & low risk (but frequent). Exception being
some extended trail riding on hard pack stuff.
It's completely different riding with a passenger for me. Scares the hell
out of me at times. Awesome responsibility when you factor in the sheer
number of folks out there on the road that don't seem to see ya.
Riding 2 up has turned her on to a new world though, her eyes light up at
the mention of going for a ride.
I try to plan our routes carefully (avoiding traffic)...likely seems to her
as if I'm making them up on the fly, which is fine as it adds to her
experience.
I basically get up on the tank for more control, realize that stopping
distance is alot greater, take everything abit easier & ride like it's a
different bike.....my other KLR that weighs 520lbs with poor suspension & bad
brakes.
She still tries too hard (leaning) at times in twisties, that'll smooth out
in time.
Ordered one of Tim's KLR adapters for use with a Givi tailcase w/backrest.
She's gonna like that. All best
