Neil, consider a Top of the Line rear rack coupled with one or two Ortlieb Dry Duffels (medium to Large)...a very nice combo that is waterproof, versatile, and snugs up well for touring/camping. I have both the clip-ons and dry bags and the clip-ons appear to hold more than the dry bags... say more about your dissatisfaction with them... Kurt
