Sounds like you live near me - almost everything is closed here, and I live out in the midst of the forest. The wife and I have already moved all our photos, irreplaceables, etc into a safe place in town... Aye, but we already got torched... Los Alamos here. Good Luck and hope for rain. The monsoon starts next month, it can't come soon enough. I want to turn that little drainage ditch next to the house into a D606 mud testing facility. LaterZ Dash

Brian, there is some good riding in the Tijeras arroyo on base. Just keep an eye out for base security. They don't care too much for motorcycles in that area. A KLR can out run those lame diesel Blazers and Hummers anyway.

It can't outrun a radio though, and unlike the CHP the military police have absolutely no sense of humor.......I've ridden on numerous military facilities. The best course of action is to check in legally at the front gate with the MP's and get a visitor's pass (To ride legally on a military post you must have boots, gloves, helmet, eye protection, long sleeves and pants, and a reflective safety vest or some other type of high visibility garment. You'll also need to show your registration, drivers license, proof of insurance, and leave your fireworks and firearms at home.). Ask them where "Range Control" is. Go to Range Control and ask them where you can go to take some wildlife pictures, or some other such excuse that is other than "I really want to tear up some dirt on my bike." Its not that they mind the dirt getting torn up so much (ever seen the damage a platoon of tanks can do?), its that they don't want to be liable for you in a risky recreational activity. Some posts have great scenery, great hiking, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, and, of course, great riding. Some of my favorite riding is "on the back 40" at Ft. Campbell, KY, and in "Yoda's Basement" in the South Rainier training area, Ft. Lewis, WA. Jeff

There has been a lot of talk about jackets on this list lately, so I thought I'd share one that I have found. I received my Y2K Acerbis catalog today, and within they spring update there is a jacket that appears to be pretty awseome. Here are the stats.
