Whoa Mark!
I've had my 95 Grand Cherokee for 3 years now and have driven 3 sets of
Bridgestone Dueler A/T's off of it. Its about to roll 100K and still doesn't
burn oil on the 4.0 six.
That said and without any fancy schmancy gear I've taken her through hell
and back. River crossings above the headlights (had to keep it moving),
sliding sideways down hillsides for 100 feet over 2 inch thick saplings and
down jeep trails I had no business being on and it has never failed me yet.
I have a picture I'll scan of one back tire 3 feet off the ground after
sliding off a rock ledge I had driven up earlier. One guy saw me in his Ford
4x4 Truck and said I looked like a jeep commercial. He was so nice I pulled
him out of the mud bog and we went through it in mine and I showed him the
rest of the trail.
I even drove through a Nissan 240sx once but that's another story.
I agree with you about most suv's though. I'd never take an explorer though
1/8th of what I've taken my jeep through.
