Contrary to popular, or even aftermarket 'can' mfg. recommendation........ I, upon personal experience, and others, upon their reported expeience, have discovered no need to touch jetting after replacing their exhaust cannister with an aftermarket cannister. It must be said, this is not an 'absolute'. There is varying opinion about why this is true. Some say it has to do with varying jetting sizes out of the factory on the same bike. Others claim that it has to do with the operating elevation or moisture conditions that are part of their regular riding conditions. I, have found that....for whatever reason..... several of the machines I have owned have only needed a less restricted exhaust to 'come alive'. When adding the less restricted can......sparkplug tint remained perfect....and the machines ran happier ever after........ Of course, dyno and/or other tests which tell precisely how well fuel is burning will give more exact perameters here.......... It is important to mention two things at this point. One is, that if you do 'just automatically' rejet according to aftermarket can mfg. suggestion.....you will likely gain greater power, as well as less mileage. Secondly, one must take precaution that they not run too lean.......which creates not only heating factors, but premature wear of rings and seats.... When I go to my new Big un or ISDE2 quiet I fully expect the bike to run happier. I'm going to one of these because I want 'some' more bottom end. I will do a couple tests at the top end to make sure I'm running enough fuel to keep things lubed. I don't expect to change much, if anything. Perhaps a main jet. Of course all of my intake system will remain stock.
