rattle/clank/slap noises

Hi All, Daryl's bike is making an odd sound. Sort of a rattle at some RPM, or a Slap or Clank at other RPMs. Hot or Cold, typically idle-ish RPM. Sounds to be from the Cam Chain. That has an auto-tensioner, but is there a way to manually make sure that it is functioning properly? The noise is most certainly from the tensioner area of the engine. This I know from my super hero hearing that is selectively deaf to Mrs. Dash's, "Honey Do" requests. It isn't from the balancer chain as far as I can tell. We just tightened the balancer chain tensioner about 400 miles ago. Any wisdom out there? TIA LaterZ Dash
