If you put the retainer on correctly, when the holes line up through the
retainer into the sprocket, the grooves on the retainer will be
completely overlapping the grooves on the countershaft and will prevent
the retainer and the sprocket from coming off. The Sagebrush machine
parts are far superiour to the Kaw retainer.

OI put mine between the countershaft and the sprocket. I hope that was
right.
