[dsn_klr650] new virus joke (nklr)
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Kurt! That is the EXACT analogy that applies here! The one about Gino... I mean BBD... doesn't apply at all as it wasn't destructive. Disruptive yes, but destructive - no. You know me... I like a joke as much as the next guy, but that early in the morning (before my first coffee), with the type of content it contained... the "what if" factor was just too big. The guy said he was lurking for just over a month... I read the address - didn't have a clue who it was... so how was I to know the guy had a sense of (malicious) humour? I'm not going to spend a lot of time pondering the validity of the ficticious threat. I feel bad if I embarassed the guy, but life goes on... I couldn't agree more. How slow would someone have to be to erase their own hard drive? What if someone posted telling you to eat the pistol? Would you want them off because you were worried you just might do it, or you hadn't had your coffee yet and got scared? Well you should want them off if you're following your own logic. Sound smart?> Personally, I think if someone were to actually follow the virus > instructions, it would fall under the heading of "natural selection." >

The dumb virus jokes are annoying, not intellectually challenging. Merely annoying. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages with Yahoo! I agree, but the annoyance factor was not the reason quoted for taking action. These people said "the guy said he had been lurking for a month, and we didn't know how serious it was." Give me a F***ing break!> The dumb virus jokes are annoying, not intellectually > challenging. Merely annoying.

First off, there are no "these people"... Since Kurt started this list many moons ago - and then handed it over to me a few moons ago - it has been run by ONE person. There are no board of "Directors" that meet to discuss the merits of individual posts. I put many, many hours into this so that you, Mr. Hiles, can benefit from the collective knowledge of the membership. This time takes away from my time that I would otherwise be spending with my wife, three kids, other interests, business, etc.. Unlike anyone else on the list, I can't just delete the 400 stacked Email messages - or filter out the NKLR ones - I have to try and read them all. No, I'm not looking for a pat on the back. While not a completely thankless job, as I do get the occassional "thanks" Email off list, I expected it to be thankless from the beginning and so the occasional positive Emails are cool. Secondly, "these people" didn't say that "we" didn't know how serious it was... What "I" said was, "After awhile you learn the "personalities" on the list and know how to guage them. I don't know you." I'll try and explain it so that you understand... I'll use Gino as an example... or Kurt... or Ron... or Bogdan... or Stu... or Eric... or Mark... or Jeff... or any host of other Listers who have made many, many posts in the past. They develop a 'personality' on the list. You get to know them. When some FNG, like yourself, makes a post to the list - and you haven't "established" yourself (for lack of a better term), how are you "defined"? You only get one chance to make a first impression. So, am I infallible? Not a chance. Have I made mistakes running this list? Oh ya... big time. Did I err this time? Yes. Did I admit it? Yes. I'll make lots more too as I still haven't reached the top of the Email List/Internet/Computer learning curve. I gave my reasons. You have obviously chosen to disbelieve them, judging by your final remark. You can either believe me, kiss my ass, or go away. Whatever... Sorry for the diatribe folks... I'm O.K. now.-----Original Message----- From: TimHiles@... Hell, at this point, I send potential dates to the archives so we can skip the small talk portion of the evening. ---o&>o--- Sarah Barwig sarah@...>>They develop a 'personality' on the list.
