[dsn_klr650] was sick bike! - now: boiled carbs?

Post by Jim Jackson » Fri Jun 16, 2000 8:33 am

I'm new to the carb scene. Always stayed away from rejetting and tuning and such. Seemed like black magic to me... That said, I'll be rejetting when I can afford a Big Gun at the end of July. Can someone explain boiling a carb? You mean like in a pot of hot water??? I'm gonna need an air compressor to dry it out right? Any special seasonings? Does it go with bread and butter? Thanks for your patience. Jim Jackson II A13 - South Carolina

I'd say it's overkill on this bike. You're OK just dismantling the carb and soaking the parts in carb cleaner flushing under pressure (i.e., spray can) every surface and orifice on the carb with nasty organic solvents (carb cleaner, MEK, dichloromethane, hexanes, brake cleaner etc) to get it nice & spiffy. A toothbrush helps too. I've had no problems with the high-mileage abused carb on my A2. Mark B2 (nearing 27K miles) A2 (nearing 43K miles) At 6:33 AM -0700 6/16/2000, Jim Jackson wrote:

Chris, if you're going north through Lassen Park then you owe it to yourself to take CA 36 to the west, through Red Bluff, and out to the coast, it's one of the best motorcycle main roads up there. It turns off 89 at the south end of the park, though, leaving Chester, CA, through Mineral..it's a great ride. Your other choice would be to take 44 west, and pick up 36 after travelling south on I-5 a few miles. I don't recommend taking 299 to the west, it's a lot of log trucks or other trucks you'll be following to get over to the Trinity National Forest area (Weaverville, etc.).....also recommended in that area, are Highway 3, and the small twisty roads from Etna to Somes Bar, Callahan, and also not to be dismissed is Highway 96 along the Klamath River...excellent riding, if you like twisting the throttle through sweepers.....you can't go wrong up there...try the smaller roads, you'll enjoy them...try Blocksburg Road, turn off 36 at Bridgeville...it'll take you down to Garberville, and keep you out of the fog. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
