Is there a book for idiots like me who think they'll be ready for such a
ride in 5 years time? How about similar events in the U.S.

I think we should get Kawi to sponsor a team from this list for the
next P-D. No wonder we never get any press, we're not visible
enough! Lets' do it the KLR way, though. No fancy support trucks or
crews to work on the bikes while we sleep. Just a gas card and a
saddlebag full of spares. Yeah, it'd be cool. I'll bring the beer.
Then again, a team from this list would probably spend more time
arguing about what kind of oil to use than racing.

(Sorry, I
couldn't resist.)
Cheers,
D.

It has always been my belief that the only air that should be in your forks,
is ambient. I was lead to believe, many years ago, that air in the forks
causes two things. First, it promotes stiction which is bad, and it also
promotes the aeration of your fork fluid, also bad. Plus, if you allow the
pressure to build up in your forks, say hard riding with altitude changes,
you can blow your fork seals. I believe that the bleeders on your fork tubes
are better used for releasing air pressure and not adding it. As for the
shock, without seeing it, it is impossible to say for sure, but, WP does also
stand for White Power which is primarily into forks. It also stands for Works
Performance which does make shocks. I would lean towards the latter since
they do offer a shock for the KLR. Hope this helps.
