Ed, those kinds of problems are difficult because it could be so many things. I just went through a similar experience on my DR and it turned out that because the bike was new to me I had the choke engaged instead of disengaged. On the carb side you have a number of things to check: 1. Good vacuum from the carb to the petcock 2. Good flow of fuel from the petcock 3. At the carb you have: a. float level b. perfectly clean and undamaged jets especially the main c. an unkinked overflow tube d. a perfect diaphragm on the slide e. an unkinked cable to the fuel enricher 4. I had the same symptoms when I was running too large a main but it doesn't sound like this would apply to you. 5. Clean air filter Kurt BTW, I apologize for not recognizing you from your posts at the rally...> My bike has not been running to well lately. It runs great except > between 4500 and 5500 RPMs. In this area, the bike starts to spit and > sputter. Kind of like it is starting to run out of gas. I tried running > the bike with the gas cap open and this did not help. I thought it might > be a venting problem, but I guess not. I did clean the carb and this > only fixed the problem for about a week. Does anybody have an idea what > this problem could be?
