Eloquently said, Sarah. I do high-end mechanical CAD using PRO/E, which has become the industry standard. Several years ago my company bench-marked HP, Sun & SGI Unix boxes. We switched from Sun Spark 20s to HP C240s because of performance. Since then, PRO/E came out with an NT version. I now have an NT box with a gig of RAM (yes, a gig) and it's significantly faster than Unix. Since there is no CAD package for the Mac that comes within ICBM range of PRO/E, the only reason I'd have a Mac is as a door stop. (There ain't enough room on my desk for a dedicated I-net gizmo.)
