While time is money, I said it before, and I'll say it again, that when you are giving your bike over to a mechanic to work on, you are literally putting your life in his hands, and just how much is your life worth to you? Where you failed, was in looking over that mechanic's shoulder while he was working, or at a minimum, fully inspecting the wheels, axle nuts, brakes and chain after you got your bike back. I have had tires mounted, but I remove the wheels and just take those in. So, to answer your question, Yes, this guy owes you, yes, make him pay for the parts and do the labor, but look over his shoulder, inspect his work, and then never let him touch your bike again. That's what I'd do anyway. Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. That's kinda where I was headed. Sad thing is, I felt something wrong with the brake the night before but was too tired to look at it closely enough. I even bled the friggin' rear brake and didn't notice his error (keep in mind this is my first bike - and boy am I learning quick!). The good news is , if I can get time in my friends garage (don't have my own), this week is the perfect time to check them valves. Gotta go with Jeff on this one. The guy appears not to know his ass from the proverbial hole in the ground. Let him do the work because he should. Don't let him do anything else because he shouldn't. Hey Tumu, I feel your pain. I always felt that it's safer and more cost-effective to do your own work. But this guy owes you, so let him fix the problem. From that point on, you're they only guy who wrenches on the bike. Sorry the grinch stole mini-Moab from you. The Durty Dabbers weekend was AWESOME as usual.
