I've had much to say on this subject and I'm sure that many old-time list members are tired of hearing it. On the otherhand, most of the old-time list members are probably on the way to Moab by now -- I live close. Here's a summary: I'm six feet tall and could put both feet flat on the ground before I lowered my KLR -- I did it because I thought the bike was obscenely top heavy and I wanted it to handle like motorcycles I rode years ago. I like it much better lowered. But, I'm willing to suffer the consequences of a lowered KLR: when I ride with a couple old motocrossers, I literally mutilate the Moose/MSR bash plat on rocks; my feet hit rocks often; the stock exhaust hits the swing arm frequently; on rare occasions the front tip of the front fender rubs the tire (harmless). I don't care. I like the way it handles. If I decide it has to be raised again to ride with the old motocrossers, I'll buy a KTM. I'm not going to repeat all the things I've said in the past; search the archives for "lowering links" or author "Verle Nelson (pro) and Kurt Simpson (con)." Here's a link you should find interesting: http://www.geocities.com/~klrdsn/page83.html (a Dual Sport News article) I did have a web site article on tire clearance with lowering links but I can't seem to find it now. Here are a couple things to be aware of if you lower your bike. 1) Oversized tires may rub on various things. Unless you are a light-weight or ride conservatively, I suggest full preload on the rear spring and rebound dampening set on three. If you are a heavy-weight, you may need stiffer springs. 2) The license plate will be destroyed on the first really big bump unless you move it first. You had better remove the lower part of the sub-fender while you are at it. I still wouldn't have it any other way. But be aware that some people are not impressed with lowering links. It's all in the archives. Verle Nelson Cedaredge, CO> Does anyone have feedback (pro or con) on lowering the bike (A13) > using new shock linkages.
