i think everyone admits that the govt messed up on mtbe. apparently it did
result in somewhat cleaner air tho, even during the original debate about
introducing mtbe into gas, there was a lot of concern about its persistence
in water.
i grew up in the 60's-70's in LA, before they really had much of smog
controls. i wouldn't go back to those days for anything. the air there now
isn't great, but i think it was much worse then.
