new(ish) klr and a mystery solved

Hello all - I've been lurking for some months while shopping for my very
own incarnation of this fine machine. Today I picked it up - a '99 with
20k km that I bought from a guy who just came back from a Mexico trip.
He and a buddy from Victoria and another from Edmonton planned this for
over a year; bought new bikes in January of '99 and after a summer of
practice took 4 weeks to go to Baja and Copper Canyon. Al Phipps of the
list mentioned a friend seeing them coming back on the ferry to
Vancouver Island in April - they are not members of the list, but at
least one (Rob) has read it, learned and modified.
So I have a bike with the standard list mods: stainless brake line,
Progessive front spring, Moose skid plate as well as dry-bag panniers
and a Givi topcase. My plan is to get familiar with it this summer and
then take off with my brother (who bought an '00 this spring) to Morocco
next April. This bike will have seen some of the world, eh?
You folk make entertaining and informative reading - thanks!
