[dsn_klr650] clutchless shifting klr 650

Post by Rob MacLeod » Fri Jun 02, 2000 12:54 pm

I, like your friend, almost always shift without using the clutch (mostly on up-shifts). It takes a little practice to get 'good' at it. Just make sure you unload the tranny by backing off the gas and pre-load the shifter a little with pressure from your foot. When you have it down, you will make impressive shifting sounds just like a pro dragster! Rob

A friend of mine who has a 97 KLR says he rarely uses his clutch for normal shifting except when stopping & starting! He's been told by motorcycle mechanics that his clutch will last longer. Hum? I've done this with dirt bikes in loose ground conditions but what about pavement? How does the KLR tranny cogs hold up to this? Perplexed in Post Falls, Idaho G. Meyer

....the guy in the Darien jacket (I hope not a Darien Light) ;-) and white helmet on a pre-98 KLR650 with a Givi tailbox driving down the Vestal parkway near SUNY Binghamton around noon today? A lister? Thanks. Bob Kaub
