Have you checked the shift lever itself? The stock part is notoriously cheesy and is one of the first things to go south on a new KLR. If that turns out to be the culprit, you can sometimes get by with loosening it and moving it up a notch or two. Don't think that it will last though. I wouldn't bother ordering an OEM replacement. The welds are weak. Carolina Tom posted good advice, to replace it with an aftermarket part and fix the OEM for use as a spare.
