towing a klr

Post by Jim Hyman » Sat May 27, 2000 3:38 pm

Peter, I DON'T recommend towing a KLR with the front wheel off the ground & the rear wheel on the road. The KLR's transmission bearings are pressure fed from the oil pump. With the KLR in neutral, the tranny's countershaft will be rotating, as will all the transmission gears, without the benefit of oil pressure. While towing may be ok off road where the speeds are slow and the distance short, you may cause extensive damage by towing at road speeds for a longer distance. Why go through the trouble of removing the chain & trying to secure the KLR? If need be, have a riding buddy ride the bike for you. Some listers may reply that they've towed their bikes without problems, I wouldn't risk it. Professor A9 Federal Way, Wa. [USA] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --- "Peter Kewin" wrote:
