I use the Garmin eMap, and I have used it on several trips over many hundreds of miles, both with the battaries, and with batteries and power cord with no problems. It only uses 2 AA batteries. And I always carry an extra 4 pack of good, not cheap, alkeline batteries with me on extended road trips. I have the Map Source topo maps that will give you an idea if the terrain ahead, with elevations and such. It has almost all of the trails I ride on it too. It's like the geological survey maps. And shows too much stuff to list here. I have rode many trails with it mounted on the handlebars, but when the going gets too rough, I put it in the tank bag, just in case.. It probably helps because of it's size. But I havent had any of the problems yall have had. And my bike buzzes so bad, I cant hardly see out of the rear views at 20 mph.
