[dsn_klr650] nklr: suzuki bandit 600

I'm wondering what anyone's opinions are regarding the 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600. I am interested in a street bike at some point in the future, but I would have very limited funds. This Suzuki seems to be the most reasonably priced streetbike in the CC range I'm looking for. So does anyone have experience with this bike? Any advice about other bikes with similar price range (under $6,000)? __________ How about the SV650...it gets raves...Arne, Vik or Brian will bring you the Canadian version with the fairing.... A friend I ride with really likes his. It is significantly different from the SV. The SV is more sporty. The Bandit, with the model year 2000 updates, is pretty cool for a sport touring bike. I have not ridden it but was impressed when I really examined the features. The Bandit has hard points on the tail section to readily receive hard bag mounts. The CN SV is much more sporty and has a very aggressive riding position. The word is that you can import them by getting Suzuki to provide you a letter that states the bike conforms to US safety and emissions requirements. The guy I know who did it said the only sticky point it he had to get it inspected to get an Ohio title instead of the Canadian one and if the trooper wanted to be a real stickler they could make an issue about the speedometer reading in kilometers. Guess I am just being a blowhard because I have not ridden either one of them but the Bandit was a lot cooler in person than in print. Mark McCoy Kurt Simpson wrote:

I used to be on a Bandit list. 1. A little heavy 2. Soft suspension (can be fixed, though) 3. Engine buzzes a little too much for some people at highway speeds. 4. Very good rider position for longer distances. 5. Durable, proven engine design. Take a look at the SV650. Something like 80-90 (dry) pounds lighter, and better handling. If you want a fairing, cross your fingers and hope that Suz brings the SV650S to the states for 2001. RM

fan problems. Also, thanks to the lister who advised me on the importance of wire gauge. I had electronics when I was in High School over 20 years ago and thought I was well versed in electronics, but I forgot much. I guess many listers already know DON"T CONNECT THE FAN TO THE EUROPEAN RUNNING LIGHTS! Probably not ... but now they do Unless of course you want to risk cookin your wires. And the final embarrassment; shop mechanic said it was a blown fuse. Hey, life's an adventure and you can't learn anything by not taking risks and thats half the fun. A man's got to know his limitations ! But we need to test the limits now & then. It was definitely an educational experience. I think I'll play it safe for little while as the riding season is here and don't want to be without a bike on the weekends. Thanks all!

Thanks for 'fessing up & letting others learn from your mistake. Only a fool doesn't learn from his mistakes. I guess that's why I'm so smart, I've made so many mistakes & I'll make many more ... Professor A9 Federal Way, Wa. [USA]
