95' klr oil leak

Post by Steve Rawls » Wed May 17, 2000 7:51 pm

Hey gang, I'm rather new to the list, I've been reading posts for a couple of weeks and have learned a bunch. I've been riding bikes for the better part of my life, got my MC endorsement when I was 15 and am now at the ripe old age of 39, boy does time fly. Until recently I've been riding Connies and BMW K bikes but I recently decided to go back to my roots and ride dual sport. Man am I happy with the KLR, selling all 3 of the street bikes now and just riding the KLR. Anyway, I'm hoping someone out there can answer a question for me. I have a 95' KLR 650 that's sprung a leak.... It's not a severe leak but an annoying one. I'm getting a constant drip/run of oil from the oil filter/pump housing cover on the right side of the bike. I've replaced the rubber O ring once and have even tried using a silicon gasket sealer around the housing. Still leaks and I can't figure out why. I checked for cracks and dings in the crank case housing and on the cover it's self. Can't find any reason for the leak. It seems to drip from the lip/nipple with the arrow on it. Anyone out there got any ideas ?? Any and all info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Best Wishes, Steve Rawls srimages@... http://www.steverawls.com

There is no mention in this particular text of DOT 5 fluid. It is for the most part obsolete in the industry. Yes it is Silicone based and as far as I know was only used in older British cars, I don't know if it saw use in bikes or not. ********************************************** Harley uses DOT 5 on all their bikes. It's relativley hard to find and as some- one already pointed out, way hard to switch from DOT 3/4 to 5 brake system. Benefits of DOT 5 juice include, greatly reduced water absorption and it won't harm your paint job. Darrel A12 (digest)
