[dsn_klr650] riding in wind techniques? (nklr?)

Crosswinds are not a biker s friend! Last year between Las Vegas (Lost Wages) and Bishop in the 110F desert I learned how crosswinds are managed (for me, anyway). As we were buzzing down the highway about 65mph, we could see the winds picking up sand ahead of us, we entered the wind and it nearly took us off the road. I had slowed to 40 or so, but still was at a very sharp angle to the wind, which was at a close 90 degrees to my line of travel. The wind was coming from the left and I had a long sweeper to the right coming up. I took that turn in prayer, as I was leaning the wrong way! As I came around the turn I was straight up and down, vertical, at 40mph in a sweeper! What I learned: Slow down to a controllable pace, but not too slow. Too slow and you loose your forward inertia, too fast and you can't correct for the gusts that will be in the wind. Best bet is to stop if you get too shaken, you can always ride when you calm down. --- Rev.
