Darrel, The Mobil 1 oil that I purchased is the 'newer' Tri-Synthetic formula (15w-50). The 'donut' on the can has no starburst & says: "API SERVICE SJ/CF" in the upper donut ring & "SAE 15W-50" in the donut's center. The back of the oil container says "Exceeds API SERVICE SJ,SH/CF warranty requirements for gas for gasoline and diesel ..." I'm not familiar with the starburst emblem or its significance. Hopefully, Skip can shed some light on the matter. What weight of Mobil 1 have you been running for 15K miles? Does your tranny have any false neutrals? Any problems with balky upshifts or downshifts? What is the meaning of life? Professor A9 Federal Way, Wa. [USA] The " starburst" is for the lower weight oils that have the minimum levels of phosphorus and zinc, and with the larger quantities of friction modifiers. They are said to be "Energy Conserving" oils, and usually say so on the starburst. These are the oils that everyone should especially stay away from, as the heavy metal additives are so low that the heavier weight oils couldn`t meet this extra standard and still protect and lube properly. I`ve heard industry engineers call this the " Death Starburst". Skip
