According to the "Bosch Automotive Engineering Handbook, 2nd ed." page 524. Conventional brake fluid is designated as DOT (Department of Transportation) 3... Disc Brake fluid is designated as DOT 4 Vis. at -40C Boiling point Wet boiling point DOT3 max.1500 205 C min 140C mm2/s DOT4 max 1800 230C min.155C mm2/s There is no mention in this particular text of DOT 5 fluid. It is for the most part obsolete in the industry. Yes it is Silicone based and as far as I know was only used in older British cars, I don't know if it saw use in bikes or not. There should be no problem ( I have never heard of one) in mixing 3 &4. However if you are going to do the right thing and open a fresh sealed container why not open the one with the higher boiling point, your bike does have disc brakes afterall. Honda makes superior brake fluid as far as I am concerned if you are headed for the store. Morgan Don't get it on you........see archives for details.
