I get upset when the Gov't says I can't ride my scoot on our public lands but I cannot imagine how those people who have been displaced and had their homes destroyed by this tragedy must feel. My thoughts and prayers are with them and the firefighters. I don't think anything is going to change soon because the enviro's have been well organized for a long time. I hope I am wrong. Now, if the AMA would get its act together........nah, multi-million judgment against them (us), still squabbling about helmet laws........ not much time to tackle real issues. And what would that be? Motorcycles & Public Land Use. Knot - AMA memb., but not happy with representation or lack thereof. ps: Maybe new President can do something, both AMA and USA. Know the location of your NG Armory. Keep your motorcycle tanks full and your car tanks no less than half full. Never take the same route home twice. And most importantly, never, NEVER, leave home without a fresh pair of underwear on… k650dsn@... writes:

Gino,
Totally agree with you. having hiked, camped, mountain and KLR that area and the Jemez, I am really angered at the stupidity and loss of this preventable disaster. Our so called society which we are part, has reached a new zenith here in New Mexico, of mediocrity and apathy. My only hope is that casting of votes will try and solve future situations such as this.

Warning: This message has environmental, religious, and political content!
Agree! In my opinion, environmentalism is nothing but a wacky religious
cult full of people who worship creation instead of the Creator. When the
blind (NFS) follow the blind (environmentalist), you get a big pile of
ashes.

Warning: This message has environmental content!
I know this is not the forum for environmental discussion, but in light of
the devastating fires in Los Alamos, NM and the fact that my family is
hosting a displaced Los Alamos family, I feel compelled to express my
thoughts on this disaster. It has become clear to me that there are two
groups responsible for this huge fire, which, by current estimates will not
be contained for about 2 weeks.
First, the Federal Government for its mismanagement of the forests by
having a fire suppression policy which has caused an over abundance of fuel
in all of our forests and authorizing a prescribed burn in the worse
possible conditions.
It has become clear to me, however, that the biggest culprits of this
disaster are the environmental groups, who have succeeded in stopping
logging, fuel wood gathering, trail and road building. In the area that
burned in New Mexico, Forest Guardians basically stopped all use of the
forest through legal maneuvers and law suits. Now, no one can use it
because it's gone.
So, through the great misfortune of about 20,000 people and untold loss of
property, we may now see the result mismanagement by the government and the
selfish motives of environmental groups (which in my opinion is the last
bastion of communism). Maybe now we will begin to manage our forests and
other lands in a more responsible manner.

extremism of all sorts is bad, and should be suppressed, with violence if
necessary (haha, hows that for exreme?).
seriously, i would call myself an environmentalist. how could you enjoy the
outdoors (by motor, bike, foot, horse or whatever) and not be very concerned
about preserving and protecting it?
on the other hand, some folks who call themselves environmentalists are more
concerned with shutting everyone out except people just like them. that's
too bad, because all of us who enjoy the outdoors (i assume) would like to
see it responsibly taken care of. we can probably mostly agree that logging
and mining and ranching on public land needs some sort of control, and that
all users should be careful with fire, pack their trash, respect other
users, and otherwise behave reasonably. we actually have quite a bit in
common with most hikers, horsemen and cyclists (i know because i participate
in all those activities except horse-enslavement), but no one can see past
their own selfish desires.
anyway. i think i'll ride this weekend. my deepest sympathies to those
displaced and those who have lost their homes or valuables in new mexico.

klr: handlebars and lowered front end.
Greetings again Borg,
I apologize for my previous dumb question and my misunderstanding the fork
tube extensions. I thought I recently read a post in which someone
recommended these to another lister for lowering the front end. I could not
figure out how this was supposed to work, so thanks to Verle and Redondo Ron
for giving me the real scoop. I will explore moving my forks up in the clamps
in the next week or so.
thanks,
Raamses
