I'd expect the clearances to close up over time. If the clearances were to open up, that would suggest that there is wear occuring between the cam and shim. I'd expect a valve hammering against the valve seat a few thousand times a minute to wear more than a lubricated cam/shim interface. Mister_T

[...] Most 4-stroke motors with manually set valve clearances have a requirement to check the clearances this early in the motor's life, and the KLR is no different. Best to get it checked. Mister_T
