Form vs function vs style vs price.
For a jacket to truly provide all-season functionality, it
needs to have a removable lining (additional cost).
Breathable fabric or vents are a necessity in warm weather
riding (additional cost).
To provide maximum crash protection, it needs to be heavy
smooth leather or the hi-tech approach with padding & special
outer fabrics (higher cost).
For maximum visibility & safety, reflective material is a must
(additional cost).
My outfit, Vanson Leathers (Belstaff-type field jacket) & chaps.
Probably the heaviest weight leather available.
Cons: Hot as hades in warm weather & a minus 23 score for
visibility.
Not suitable for off-road riding.
Over $1000 [US$] at today's prices.
I've had my leathers since the mid '80s. I went down HARD two
years ago when I was broadsided on the road. My road armor
didn't prevent me from getting multiple broken ribs along with
neck/shoulder injuries, but it saved my "skin".
The bottom line: What's important to you & how much are you
willing to pay for what you need (& want).
Maybe buying two separate outfits (warm vs cold) would make it
easier by getting one now and the second in the fall.
my 2 cents ...

by Teknic. It seemed to have better padding and features
(zip out full lining, fleece inner collar, cordura construction,
etc)than other brands. Feature for feature, I prefered it over
Joe Rocket, and the colors can be a LOT more subdued.
The prices were comparable, within about 20 bucks of each other.
None of my local dealer carry the brand ( I live in a small area)
but the next time I'm near one that does, I'll be checking to see
what they have.

Looks similar to the high priced clothing, but something is
missing.... What is it?
The Kilimanjaro stuff is black without the *look at me, here
I am* stripes, colors and markings. The Joe rocket stuff is
as bright as I ever want to get.
