It is quite a story, but I'm a little skeptical. I was in Moab a couple times while the Jeep people were gathering -- meals, gasoline, one night in a motel -- and I didn't see any problems at all. I met and talked with both Jeep drivers and bicyclists on several trails and found them friendly. Our waitress was very friendly and got the big tip she deserved. Maybe this author is dwelling on a few isolated events. By his own description, he would terrorize them all given the correct machine. The Jeeps (and other 4WD) vehicles were gathering in Moab annually even when I started going there more than thirty years ago. If Moab didn't want them I would think they could have figured out how to discourage them by now. But why speculate. There is one person who would know the truth: Fred?
