Thank you for your responses to my valve clearance questions. You have put my mind at ease, at least as at ease as it gets these days. Contacted my dealer today, they do a shim swap! cost $3 per shim only. Woohoo! Cycle world on Dundas St Toronto if anyone is interested. Thanks all, John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/

First, download the ShimCalc software off the DSN site. I thought it was great. Took the brainwork out of it. Second, a thought about Eldon Carl's valve adjustment procedure on the same website. He specifies the removal of the cam chain tensioner cap and spring. I don't see what this accomplishes since the plunger is a nonreturn, ratcheting arrangement. In fact, if cam removal is required and slack is introduced in the cam chain, the plunger will extend, resulting in an overtight chain after the cams are resecured. The safe procedure would be to initially remove the entire tensioner housing and then retract the plunger and reinstall the housing when the job is done. Am I out to lunch here?
