I've never needed anything more than that when travelling the other
direction, but if you're concerned, just get a passport/visa.
Cheers,

Doug-
I assume since you'll be riding a KLR that you won't even be close to
an official border crossing. I used to vacation with my parents up in
Canada when I was younger I honestly don't think we ever went through
one... I know for sure that if you are cruising up through the
Washington State area, you've got fireroads into Canada that will put a
huge grin on your face. Check out a topo of the crossing area and there
should be plenty of crossings. As far as I know, they're not going to
care as long as you aren't carrying anything illegal should they stop
you. Besides, it is the 52 state, isn't it? Long live AahmehricKa!

I've seen people turned away at the Canadian border who didn't have proof of
identity( drivers license with picture or/ passport). That's all you need,
drivers license /official ID or passport. 1 extra picture ID/credit card
wouldn't hurt.
If you look like a complete bum ( no offense intended) they may want to see
proof that you can financially support yourself (harder to do on some bikes
than KLRs) .
I'd guess you would be looked at much closer , going from Canada to USA. US
customs/local police may be a little suspicious if they see a KLR cross the
border without stopping while riding the dirt. Especially a Olive drab Y2k
with stuffed duffel bags. Would be a lot funner to avoid the official
crossings though.
Have a good time,
Conall
