nklr: boot sizing problems: combat touring boots break in?
Hi, I just bought the Combat Touring boots but the fit isn't too good. I ordered size 12, they're too big. So I had them send me the 11's, they're too small. 11 1/2 would be "just right", but they don't offer them in half sizes. Problem is I'm skinny, so with the 12's, length is good, but I can't get the boot tight enough, feels like I'm kinda floating around in them. With the 11's, they're tighter, feel better, but my toes are right up against the toe box. Does anyone have any experience with these boots are far as break in? Do you think they will loosen up over time? The size 11 toe box feels pretty tight right now, but if the boat loosens up over time they might be good. I looked all over the www for boots and they all seem to come in full sizes only, at least for the larger sizes. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks! They might stretch out width-wise, but it's unlikely that you could get the required gap in the toe area. Years ago, we would soak our boots in water over nite & then wear them walking around for several hours & then treat the boots with leather conditioner once they were fully dried out. I'm hesitant to recommend this technique, as we did this to break in proper fitting boots. If the 11's don't stretch out enuf, these will be the boots from hell! If you're committed to the combat boots, go with the 12's & find some heavy socks that breath well & wick away perspiration (any sock suggestions from the list??). Even if I try on boots or a helmet in the store, I won't buy 'em mail-order due to slight manufacturing variances. I bought THOR T-20 boots ($120) & wear them for hours on end when not on my KLR. They come in full sizes only, & I tried on 3 pairs before I found the ones that were just right. Motorcycle Works of Renton (Wa) had the best local price. Tell 'em Jim sent you (& they'll say "Jim who?). Professor '95 KLR650 A9 Federal Way, Wa. [USA]> I just bought the Combat Touring boots but the fit isn't too good.
