I think everyone should check 'em periodically, regardless of what conditions you ride in. One of mine vibrated out and one sheared off during a two-day smooth 1100 mile Interstate Hwy ride to FL from PA. Both were the upper bolts and I knew something was up when I got to Daytona and my seat was spaced 1/2" away from the Gas tank. Fortunately, I had an assortment of spare bolts and loctite. My local dealership Apex, Colrado Springs Co, way better than most though I still wouldn't trust them to do my valves, will match MAW prices. They don't advertise this but if you ask they will. They also don't advertise the fact that, if again, you insist they'll give you the same 10% parts discount they give their new bike buyers. BTW, balancing is the easy part takes 5 minutes but as you said usually isn't necesary.
