[dsn_klr650] first extended ride

Actually, I'm even dumber than that. It's never a matter of braking or sliding (there's never time). I tip the bike to one side and instantly, down I go. Doesn't matter if I'm going 10mph or, as has happened twice, 35mph. Gravel on pavement to me might as well be ball-bearings. If I hit it perpendicular, it's as you say; you slide a bit but stay up.
