wasn't someone just extolling the virtues of the "light" klr?? on saturday,
i drove up to sacratomato to pick up a very slightly used (850 miles) '98
yamaha xt225 for my wife to learn on and play on and go camping with me up
in the sierras and mendo nat'l forest and so on. talk about light! if you
don't like where it's parked, just pick it up and move it! i took the
liberty of taking it for a spin when i got back, to get gas and so forth
(doing her a favor, really), and it's so easy to ride in the dirt it's like
cheating. i'm hoping she outgrows it really soon and wants a bigger bike so
i can steal it and go singletracking.
admittedly, it has nowhere near the power or carrying capacity of my klr,
but since it weighs 100 lbs less, i can cut it some slack. it still has more
get up and go than my nissan sentra, even at freeway speeds. i'm hoping
she'll get comfortable enough on it this week to maybe go for an overnight
trip up the coast this weekend, then try an off-road camping trip the
weekend after.
anyway, thanks to all listers who responded to my earlier queries. many of
you recommended this bike as a great starter, and stacia is tickled pink
about it.
