nklr stupid bush quote of the day
The worst natural disaster was the Galveston hurricane that killed
6,000 people in 1900. This may top it. They weren't below sea level
there but after the storm, they raised every house still standing 10 to
15 feet and added a sea wall. They have had no problems since. They may
have to do that in the Big Easy to make it safer. A monumental task.

I'm spluging this morning and making just one quick comment not at all related to KLR - I agree with lots of others who believe that the Bush administration will go down in history as being the most incompetent and damaging leader our great nations has ever seen. Everyone who's read a newspaper knows that it shouldn't have taken days for FEMA and the National Guard to rescue the survivors of that storm. Hundreds, perhaps thousands have died unneccesarily - just as they have in the Middle East because of war planning that's also too little, too late.

I'm not convinced. NAFTA did more damage to our economy than Katrina.
Also, I don't believe people "die unneccessarily", they just die. When it
is your time..... you go... Heart attack, hurricane, tornado, war, or some
punk with a gun. Nobody can save the world, nobody makes decisions that
make everybody happy, or healthy. To sit back and point out the obvious
mistakes is easy. The media is very good at this.
Best thing to do is realize your little, tiny, insignificant place in the
grand scheme of things. Call it fate, destiny, or bring in your religious
convictions.
Enjoy life, ride your KLR, take in the scenery, seek out the love of a good
woman, and live life the best you can. You are cheating yourself if you sit
around stressing over shit that somebody else did or didn't do the "right"
way...

Dear "Not Convinced"
I think most people would agree with you providing it's not their babies, whose "time has come".

nklr help! my brother in law wants a bike (and my mother in law ain
My brother in law who is approaching 50 wants to get a first bike. Now
I know most of you are long time riders and like me have failed to lose
this addiction to 2 wheelers. But ......... while I love all bikes, I
don't readily encourage newcomers on them. Seems like I read the paper
every couple of weeks about some guy around 50 buys the Harley he
always wanted and crashes into a guardrail coming home without a helmet.
I'm caught in the middle of this. He wants advice from me. I'm a little
reluctant as I know bad things happen sometimes on these things. He is
not a dummy and usually has good reasoning but I think you have to be
comfortable in the riding environment and not be timid as that can get
you run over. His Moma ain't happy about it.
What do I do?
