I do what I like to do with my KLR and everybody uses KLRs differently. For these reasons anybody elses vote means nothing. Some people have good reason for wanting a center stand. Some have good reason for not wanting a center stand. Thinking your reason fits somebody else is un reasonable in the extreme.

KLR Verbal Olympics!
MAS! MAS! MAS!
Paul Streeter receives a 9.8 for the excellent explanation of the 'dangers' and subsequent cures required for an installed center stand.
succinct
accurate
concise
-.2 for not suggesting: replacing the bolts yearly. shrug.
I personally prefer the socket head bolt using a flat and spring washer when installing a center stand.
Oh. Perhaps another -.2 to Criswell for showing up at my house last year with stripped foot peg bolts. HA!
IRT to Andy's question:
There is one unspoken negative--
During a shock change last fall, my center stand reminded me that I
I cannot remove the shock without removing the unilink.
Without the center stand, the unilink would rotate forward to give sufficient clearance to allow the shock to drop.
A positive to Andy's question:
Welding the center stand to the frame would relieve the pressure on the foot peg bolts.
IMO not a sufficient benefit for doing it. shrug.
When replacing the foot peg bolts:
I personally prefer the socket head bolt using a flat and spring washer. (Increases the kool factor. cough) If you change the bolts, buy an extra set and put in your tool box. The cost is minimal and discovering you a weak or broken bolt can ruin a very nice day that should be spent riding.
NOTE: it is worth remembering, the installation requires a +5mm longer bolt (8x25); and I personally keep a spare set of OEM length (8x20) should I need to remove the center stand and still want to ride the bike.
Those that do install center stands, (especially with the upgraded models with the 'kicker') make sure the center stand does not strike the swingarm through its full range of compression. The center stands I have seen /own have a small amount of adjustment in the bolt holes that allows some degree of positioning for clearance. That includes the center stand I bought from the bigbadburleybiker as well. smile.

Perhaps voting is an oxymoron in describing our individual centerstand use.
as
the 'voting' results will not require the readership to add or remove. shrug.
A more proper use of Eddie M's quest for knowledge would be the word, 'survery'
as in,
Do you inhale, ah,
ooopps, sorry,

Do you install?

DITO To Both Rev & Sky.
I would say 99% of people would vote that a $3., Harbor frieght, Multi test meter (Electrical) will meet ALL there needs.
And I agree that for 99% of the people it will.
BUT When Those 99% NEED a Service tech I would hope that He (or She) Has a GOOD $200-$400 dollar Fluke Etc. (depending on the type of service needed.)
PS. I just can't wait for the "DEEP INTELLECTUAL DEBATES" around a campfire (Or freds Garrage) in Moab. LOL

When my Ford Escort wagon's ( I only drive the best ) battery went dead, I wiped out my cheapo multi meter. It quickly told me that the alternator was not charging. Later when the tech applied his professional gizmo one of those you wheel around he got the exact same reading I did. Just when would you need the pricey Fluke ? Some sensitive resistance check I suppose.

Checking, Capacitors, Thermopile's, thermocouples, Milli-volts, and Ghost Voltage and Ghost Shorts, for a few things. (circut boards etc.)
OR Just to show someone you can test resistance Threw there Body, R.Finger to L.finger.

I think that's the same one I have Bogdan. Sheesh! Been so many years ago I've had it on I forget. I did take some old bent handle bars and cut on up and welded it to the centerstand and makes it so much easier to work. Only thing is you have to have the side stand down before engaging it. I'll have to a pic of it and my cute little 14 tooth spocket foot on the side stand and post a link to them -)
I'll always have a centerstand. Just makes working on the bike so much easier for this older guy. Sometimes, I even use it when the bike in on the lift table. But, with the tires I have on now , Kenda 270's with a 3.25 in front and 5.10 in back, both tires are touching when on the centerstand.

I have always wanted a clamp-on DC ammeter because I think they are pure
magic.
How in god's name do you measure DC amps without a connection?
Unbelievable...

Current still flows in the circuit and gives an inductive reading. I've been
working in electronics for decades but had not seen one, Then, a couple of
years ago I had to check batteries and chargers for electric forklifts. Someone
said here's the book and a DC ammeter.
